AM General to sell Mishawaka commercial plant

MISHAWAKA, Ind. (WNDU) – A California based company is buying AM General’s commercial assembly plant in Mishawaka.

According to a news release, SF Motors, a subsidiary of Chongqing Sokon Industry Group, made the announcement Thursday. Chongqing Sokon Industry Group is a Chinese automaker and supplier, according to the company website.

The sale includes the land, plant and some of the equipment inside.

They say this deal does not affect AM General’s military assembly plant, which is their core business.

There’s no word on the financial terms for this agreement.

Officials say this move will help keep 430 jobs in tact which otherwise would have been lost when the plant’s last contract expires later this year.
