MUNCIE, Ind. – The Boys & Girls Club of Muncie announced Monday afternoon that its executive director, Micah Maxwell, had resigned.

Maxwell had held the position since June 2013.

“We have served the community for almost 80 years,” Juli Metzger, president of the Boys & Girls Club board of directors, said in a prepared statement. “During that time the health, character and academics of our club members has been our priority. These remain our priorities.”

The board will “work with Boys & Girls Clubs of America to search for a full-time replacement” for Maxwell, the release said.

Maxwell also announced his departure on his Twitter account, and included a statement.

“Against better judgment I made a bad decision and, as with all poor choices, there are consequences,” he wrote. “Rightfully so, my conduct was brought to the attention of my organization’s leadership.

“Boys & Girls Club requires a leader of high integrity and moral character. I violated that standard and as a result it is best for the club and those it serves for me to resign.”

Maxwell said he wanted to “make it clear that my actions did not include minors.”

He said he apologized “to those that were and will be impacted,” and asked for “your prayers and forgiveness.”

Maxwell was recently appointed to incoming State Superintendent of Public Instruction Jennifer McCormick’s transition team.
