First Muslim Woman Judge Sheila Abdus-Salaam Found Dead in Hudson River

The body of the first Muslim woman judge in U.S. history was found washed up on the Manhattan side of the Hudson River Wednesday (April 12).

Police say Sheila Abdus-Salaam, 65, was discovered floating by witnesses who had spotted her fully clothed body and called 911. According to New York Post, there were was no signs of trauma or injuries indicating criminality or foul play, and her death appeared to be a suicide.

Abdus-Salaam, who is an associate judge of the Court of Appeals, had been reported missing from her Harlem home earlier in the day. Her husband later identified her body.
