Newscenter 16 St. Joseph County Metro Homicide is looking for 21-year-old Nelson Cotton Jr. They say Cotton is wanted in connection to the death of another man who was shot before driving his car into an apartment.

According to people on Facebook, the victim was Gary Williams Jr.

It was around 1:20 a.m. when crews were called to Indian Springs Apartments in South Bend. There they found a car that had gone into an apartment and Williams who was dead behind the wheel. It appeared that he was a victim of a shooting.

“He was facing the building, there was a bit of a confrontation with another individual, to what depth I won’t go into that. He put his vehicle into drive and pulled forward,” says St. Joseph County Metro Homicide Unit Commander Tim Corbett.

Talking to witnesses and taking statements led Metro Homicide to Cotton. They say Cotton is 21-years-old, weighs 195 pounds and is 5 foot 11. He has been living in South Bend. They believe he drives a black Malibu. They did say he has been in the military and has been military trained. If you see Cotton you are asked to call the police.

Investigators also said there was one other person in the car at the time of the shooting and crash. That person was not injured and is cooperating with police.

Investigations didn’t stop there. Crews were called back to that same apartment complex around 4 a.m. for a fire that broke out. As of now, there aren’t any reports of injuries. Police are still investigating the fire. The cause of the fire is currently unknown.
