Indianapolis man losing job to Mexico warns of ripple effect, “I want it to stop”

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — One of the almost 400 employees at Rexnord whose jobs will move from Indianapolis to Mexico says he hopes newly elected officials will do something to stop more families from being affected.

Until very recently, Brian Bousum had the life he wanted.

“I’m still in the shock phase,” Bousum said.

That’s because he’s losing his job at the Rexnord plant on the west side. After the employees’ union and the city tried to negotiate with the company, it decided Monday to close the plant by June and move its jobs to Mexico. Bousum’s $24-an-hour job will be taken by someone making $2.50 to $3.00 an hour plus benefits, according to the union’s president.
