Visit Indy tells NewsCenter 16 that they are referring Indy 500 visitors to hotels in South Bend, Bloomington, and Lafayette.

Indianapolis’ 33,000 hotel rooms were all booked two months ago, which was weeks earlier than expected.

Visit Indy says they expect visitors coming from north of Chicago to use South Bend and other cities as a rest stop during their long drives.

In other Indy 500 news, for the third time since 1950, the race will be broadcast live in central Indiana.

IMS officials advise leaving two hours early to arrive before gates open.
