J.D. Ford becomes Indiana’s 1st openly LGBTQ lawmaker, ousts longtime incumbent Mike Delph

INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) — State Sen. Mike Delph has lost his re-election bid.

The Republican has represented Senate District 29 since 2005. That covers portions of Marion, Boone and Hamilton counties.

Delph chairs the Veterans Affairs committee and is the ranking member on the Homeland Security and Transportation committee. He missed a portion of the last legislative session because of a deployment with the Army Reserve doing recovery work in Puerto Rico after damage caused by Hurricane Maria last September.
