Judge says man accused of teacher’s killing can’t move trial

LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) – A man accused of killing a Lafayette art teacher must stand trial for her murder in Tippecanoe County.

A judge ruled Friday against Darius Javon Printup, who was seeking to have his trial moved to another county.

Authorities say Printup fatally shot 52-year-old Kristi Redmon in October after she answered her door. The then-18-year-old Printup was arrested and charged with murder.

The Journal and Courier reports that Printup’s attorney had argued that news coverage of Redmon’s killing could bias local jurors.

A probable cause affidavit quotes an unidentified witness as saying Printup was looking for a male “who had ripped him off” when he allegedly shot Redmon through her door.
