INDIANAPOLIS – Police are investigating after they say two people were shot, one fatally, in Broad Ripple early Monday morning.

Officers responded to the shooting in the 6300 block of Guilford Avenue around 3 a.m.

When they arrived on scene, police say they found a man suffering from at least one gunshot wound behind LAVA Hookah Lounge. They found a second man with a gunshot wound near Brothers Bar and Grill a short distance away.

One victim, a 23-year-old, was shot in the chest and transported to IU Methodist Hospital where he was pronounced dead. The second victim, a 22-year-old who was shot in the stomach, was awake and breathing when transported to the hospital.

Homicide detectives are on scene investigating the events that led up to this shooting. Police say the shooter fled the scene but have not released any suspect information.

“We don’t know exactly who’s responsible. I mean, it could very well be these individuals were shooting at each other,” said IMPD North District Commander Chris Bailey. “We’re still trying to figure that out right now.”

Bailey said detectives were interviewing suspects and planned to go through surveillance footage from the area.

“The alley is well lit, so it wasn’t dark back there which is even more concerning to me, you know,” Bailey said. “There’s been a lot of hard work done up here [in Broad Ripple] to keep this secure so for an individual or individuals to ruin that really makes me angry and the businesses and the people that live up here aren’t going to be very happy about this in the morning either.”

Anyone with information is urged to call Crime Stoppers at 317-262-TIPS (8477).
