Simple wish comes true for woman turning 100

100 yr old

WACO, Texas (KWTX) Her birthday wish was to go to church on Sunday, as she’s done almost all her life and on her 100th birthday, Olivia Ross’ family made sure it happened.

Olivia first stepped foot inside Greater Ebenezer Baptist Church in Waco 93 years ago.

She’s been a part of the church ever since, but hasn’t been able to attend service since moving to a nursing home last year.

“[This church] has been one of the most important things in her life,” said her daughter Loyce Edmon.

Sunday, on her 100th birthday, Olivia is back.

The congregation celebrated her milestone with her family by her side. Some of them drove from as far as New York to be with her.

“When we look at her we see our mother, and it’s so special to be here for her 100th birthday,” said her nephew William Young.

After the service, Olivia’s family held a surprise birthday party for her. She didn’t know William and his sister were coming in to visit her.

“Well I’m just so glad to see you all!” Olivia said.

The McLennan County Commissioners Court gave a Olivia a proclamation, honoring her service to the community over the past century.

The proclamation is now a permanent part of the minutes of the commissioners court.
