“The Shirt” 2017 to be unveiled Friday

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WNDU) – As Saturday’s annual Blue-Gold game nears, a highly anticipated and longstanding tradition at Notre Dame happens Friday.

“The Shirt” 2017 will be unveiled outside the Hammes Bookstore during a celebration beginning at 4 p.m.

It is open to the public, and there will be live entertainment, food and giveaways.

The actual shirt unveiling will be done by head football coach Brian Kelly at 6 p.m.

It will be available for purchase right after the announcement for $18 each.

This year’s special guest will be John Scully, a 1980 Notre Dame graduate, who wrote the lyrics to “Here Come the Irish,” which is played at Notre Dame Stadium before kickoff.

His lyrics will appear on this year’s shirt.

Proceeds benefit student organizations and a charity fund that helps students with extraordinary medical expenses.
