White House press secretary confirms President Obama will Visit Concord HS, Lerner Theater

President Obama is less than one week away from returning to Michiana. On Wednesday he’ll pay a visit to Elkhart…the site of his first trip after taking office in 2009.

White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest confirmed to Newscenter 16 Thursday President Obama will be speaking at Concord High School and participating in a town hall meeting at the Lerner Theater during his visit on June 1.

During his visit, President Obama will focus on economic progress our country has made, highlighting Elkhart.

In 2009, the county’s unemployment rate peaked at 19.4-percent, but today it remains under four-percent.

“When the president visited Elkhart in early 2009, we were in the depths of the worst economic downturn since the great recession. But since that time our economy has made a remarkable comeback. Over the last 74 consecutive months our economy has created private sector jobs every single month. That is the longest streak of private sector job growth in our nation’s history,” said Earnest.

The president will also discuss economic challenges that remain and decisions facing Americans tomorrow.
